The Peacebuilder is a powerful drama specially written for Mark, who has been hailed by the Wall Street Journal as, “One of the great, great actors of any generation.”
Mark will perform the life and words of Henri—an extraordinarily brave and charismatic man living in war-torn eastern Congo. Kidnapped, tortured and his life ransomed, Henri faced a choice—join with rebels to avenge those who had crossed him, or devote his life to building peace in the Congo. He chose the harder way, working with militia members to persuade them to lay down their weapons and rescuing child soldiers from the bush.
This is the dramatic story of one man’s work to bring an end to the violence that has cost the lives of 5.4 million people.
“I come from Congo. The heart of Africa. But this heart is bleeding. It has been bleeding for a long time.”
This event marks the US launch of Peace Direct, an international not-for-profit that supports local peacebuilders like Henri in war zones worldwide.
The evening at New York’s Yale Club includes a chance to meet Henri, Mark and members of the Peace Direct Board, over drinks and canapés after the show.
