Joyce Apsel

Joyce Apsel teaches in the Global/Liberal Studies Program at New York University and in 2009 received the NYU Distinguished Teaching Award. She has a long history of involvement in issues of peace and humanitarianism. She is Director of RightsWorks, a human rights educational initiative and is on the Executive Board and NGO representative to the UN for the International Network of Museums for Peace based in Geneva. Her research focuses on children’s rights, human rights and pedagogy. Recent writings include Museums for Peace (ed. with Anzi and Mehdi): Teaching about Human Rights. She is past president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and current President of the Institute for Study of Genocide.
